The curator-led artist talk at my solo exhibition, 'Seek.&.Hide,' on 10th August 2023, was the culmination of a decade-long synergy between Nayanika Singh and me. Our relationship, rooted in both friendship and professional respect, set the stage for this ambitious project. My multifaceted practice in fashion and visual arts interweaves seamlessly with Nayanika's curatorial expertise, creating a dynamic partnership that is both intuitive and intellectually aligned.
'Seek.&.Hide' is not just an exhibition of my recent works; it is a testament to our collaborative spirit. Our overlapping research areas have deepened our understanding of each other’s creative and professional approaches, simplifying the collaboration process. This mutual comprehension was instrumental in establishing a robust framework for the show, ensuring its thoughtful and successful curation.
The highlight of the opening was the curator-led artist talk, a deliberate choice stemming from our confidence in articulately sharing our work and collaboration process. This session transcended a mere presentation; it was an interactive experience inviting the audience into our world. Attendees engaged in a dialogue, inquiring about my artistic practices and the nuanced curatorial decisions shaping the exhibition. This interaction was not just informative but also an illustration of the interpersonal skills crucial in self-initiating and realizing such a project.
The intention of this talk was twofold: to offer an insider's view into the unique artist-curator relationship that brought 'Seek.&.Hide' to life, and to foster an engaging space for audience participation and understanding. It was an opportunity for us to showcase how collaborative creativity can result in a compelling and cohesive exhibition, and to inspire meaningful conversations around art and its presentation.
